I randomly decided to try Sushi Cafe, having passed by it a few times. This place seemed warm and inviting, especially since sushi is quite a rare find in India. This place turned out to be more than just about sushi.

Welcoming Vibes and Cultural Beats
Greeted warmly by the pizza dough guy at the entrance, the staff’s friendliness set a welcoming tone. The atmosphere was enhanced by cool cultural music, like ‘El Bambi’ by Sharhabil Ahmed playing in the background.

A Digital Nomad’s Perspective
Checked the Wi-Fi – OK speed (17mbps download, 47mbps upload), but the seating for laptop work is limited. Only two floor seating areas have electricity plugs, not ideal for long sessions.
The menu is designed like a notepad. The first thing I ordered? The lamb burger. It’s tough to find beef or lamb burgers in India, so I never miss a chance to try one. also took a lemon ginger honey tea.
Lamb Burger
My meal started with the lemon ginger honey tea – simple with cut ginger and just a bit of lemon, but they didn’t skimp on the honey. Real honey, too, not the substitute you often get. Then came the burger. It was a bit on the small side but looked mouth-watering with melted cheese oozing out. They even pre-cut it in half – just the way I like it so save me the trouble.

The potatoes were the first thing I tried, and they were awesome – fresh, crispy, probably the best I’ve had in Goa. The salad, though small with red and white cabbage and some carrots, was pretty bland, could’ve used a lemon squeeze.
I asked for mayonnaise for the burger but got only a small amount of low quality. The special house dip which was mustard based, though meant for potatoes, was a better complement. The burger itself was decent – the bun was fluffy, and the meat was good, though it didn’t quite taste like typical lamb. The cheese added a nice touch but wasn’t overwhelming.
Overall, the burger was tasty, but I’m pretty picky about my burgers. I’d give it a 5 out of 10. In terms of Indian burger standards, though, it’s more like a 7 out of 10. But those potatoes? Amazing – a solid 8 out of 10 for me.

Sushi Time
After the burger, I waited a bit and then went for the chef’s special – Kingfish Makizushi. It’s always exciting to try the specialty of a restaurant.

The eight-piece Kingfish roll was large and cooked, different than my usual preference for raw fish. However, the rice was spot-on – sticky, tasty, and just as I like it. main issue for me was there is no spicy mayo.

Couple of tips: you can ask for filtered water in their own bottle, they don’t bring it automatically. Also, like many places around here, when the sun starts setting, the mosquitoes come out in swarms. So, if you’re planning to stay into the evening, be prepared!
Wrapping Up the Experience
Sushi Cafe impressed me with its great ambiance, tasty food, and friendly staff. Next visit, I’m eager to try their pizza, especially since the pizza guy seemed like he knew what he was doing.
